When incorporating a sibling in a newborn session, I recommend not expecting them to hang around the studio the entire time. A lot of change has happened in their little world in such a short period of time. So making a photography session fun for your child can help make the experience and results as best as possible.

A really good way to make your newborn photography session more fun for your child is planning to take them somewhere fun before or after their part. My typical workflow for a newborn session is doing the family captures first – unless mom is getting hair and makeup done in studio, then I do the baby alone captures while she’s getting that done. Here’s my fave places to take your new big bro/sis!

  1. Bill’s Donuts. It’s not only a worldwide recognized donut shop, but it’s also just down the street. An easy, and for sure way to excite your child.
  2. A local park. The studio is located in Centerville, which is apart of Washington Township and is known as park district because of all the parks around. So there’s many to choose from, but there’s also a fun splash pad at The Activity Center Park just down the road.
  3. The library. If it’s winter, or rainy the library can be a great trip for little ones. The Washington Centerville Public Library is just a 3 minute drive.

Every kid is different and so what works for each family can vary. Regardless, you want your child to enjoy the experience along with you. Sometimes bribes are necessary. You can plan to take them to a local toy store like Learning Express, or their favorite restaurant as a treat for good behavior.
