There are so many things moms are responsible for remembering.
The appointments. The schedules. The clothes they’ve outgrown. The funny thing they said this morning. The way they still reach for your hand. The little habits you swear you’ll never forget.
And somehow, you’re usually the one documenting it all, too.
You’re taking the pictures. Planning the birthdays. Making the albums. Saving the artwork from school and trying to make sure these years don’t disappear without something to remember them by.
But you deserve to be in the memories, too.
That’s why I believe a family photography session should be about more than simply creating beautiful photographs.
It should give you the opportunity to step out from behind the camera, let someone else take care of the details, and simply be present with the people you love most.

You Don’t Have to Create the Moment
One of the things I want moms to know before walking into my studio is that you don’t need to arrive ready to perform.
Your children don’t need to be perfectly behaved. You don’t need to know what to do with your hands. And you certainly don’t need to spend the entire session trying to get everyone to look at the camera and smile.
That’s my job.
Your job is to love on your babies.
Hold them. Play with them. Let them crawl into your lap. Kiss their cheeks. Laugh when things don’t go exactly according to plan.
Some of my favorite photographs happen when everyone stops thinking about the photograph.

An Experience Where the Details Are Already Taken Care Of
For most moms, getting family photographs taken isn’t difficult because they don’t want the photographs.
It’s everything that comes before them.
What will everyone wear?
What will photograph well together?
Will the baby cooperate?
What do we need to bring?
How are we going to get everyone ready and out the door?
A thoughtfully designed photography experience removes as many of those decisions as possible.
My studio includes a carefully curated wardrobe for mothers, babies and young children, along with guidance for styling the rest of your family. Everything from the light in the studio to the pace of the session is intentionally designed around photographing families with babies and young children.
You don’t have to figure it all out before you arrive.
You get to walk in and know you’re being taken care of.

Let Your Children Be Exactly Who They Are Right Now
The photographs I want you to have aren’t only the ones where everyone is looking at the camera.
I want you to remember how your baby fit against your chest.
The way your toddler wrapped both arms around your neck.
Those little fingers holding yours.
The belly laughs. The movement. The way your children looked at you when they were this little.
These are often the things that feel ordinary while we’re living them. And they’re exactly the things we miss when they change.
That’s also why I don’t expect babies or young children to perform for the camera. Sessions are designed to follow their lead, leaving room for snuggles, breaks and all the little moments that naturally happen in between. If the thought of photographing your family with a baby feels overwhelming, I shared more about how to have a relaxed family photo session with a baby and why letting go of perfection often creates the most meaningful images.

You Belong in These Photographs
Moms spend so much time making sure everyone else’s childhood is documented.
But someday, your children aren’t only going to want photographs of themselves.
They’re going to want photographs of you with them.
They’ll want to see the way you held them. The way you looked at them. How little they once were beside you.
And you’ll want those photographs, too.
Not just the perfectly posed portrait, but the ones that bring you right back to what this stage of motherhood felt like.
I’ve written before about why being in the frame matters during motherhood, because I believe these photographs become about so much more than what your family looked like. They become a way for your children to someday see what it felt like to be loved by you.

Beautiful Photographs Are Only Part of the Experience
Of course, I want you to leave your session with beautiful photographs.
Photographs that feel timeless. Photographs that belong on the walls of your home and in albums your children can someday hold in their own hands.
But I also want the experience of creating them to feel different.
Unhurried.
Easy.
Intentional.
A little pocket of time where you aren’t responsible for documenting the memory.
You simply get to be part of it.
Because this stage won’t always look like this.
And while you can’t slow it down, you can make sure you have something beautiful to bring you back to it.
