Your newborn session is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture the sweet, fleeting moments of your baby’s first days. Preparing for the session can help ensure it’s a stress-free and enjoyable experience for you and your little one.
In this post, I’ll share practical advice to help you arrive feeling confident and ready for a smooth session.

1. What to Wear: We’ve Got You Covered
One of the best parts of booking your newborn session with me is that you don’t have to stress about what to wear—I have everything you need right here in the studio.
For Baby:
I have a beautiful collection of soft, neutral wraps, onesies, and simple accessories that photograph timelessly. We’ll keep your baby cozy, comfortable, and styled in a way that highlights their sweet features—no need to bring a thing unless you have something sentimental you’d like to include.
For Parents and Siblings:
The studio wardrobe includes a curated selection of flattering, neutral-toned pieces for moms, dads, and siblings—designed to coordinate beautifully and photograph effortlessly. I’ll help style everyone so you feel confident, relaxed, and camera-ready.
Prefer to bring your own clothing? No problem! Stick with soft, natural tones and simple styles that complement each other, avoiding bold prints or logos that can distract from the connection we’re capturing.

2. Packing Essentials for Your Session
Having a well-packed bag can make all the difference in creating a smooth experience. Here’s what to bring:
- Feeding: Anything you need for feeding – nipple shields, bottle, formula
- Diapers and Wipes: Expect to change at least one diaper during the session.
- Pacifiers: If your baby uses one, it can be a lifesaver for soothing them during transitions.
- Extra Clothes: Pack an extra outfit for both baby and parents in case of spills or accidents.
- Snacks and Water: For yourself! Sessions can be a few hours long, so it’s important to stay hydrated and energized. (the studio will have some available too)
3. Timing Feedings and Naps
A well-fed and rested baby is much more likely to stay calm and happy during the session. Here’s how to plan:
- Feeding: Feed your baby right before leaving for the session or upon arrival to ensure they are content and sleepy. If they need a top-up during the session, that’s perfectly fine.
- Napping: Many newborns naturally fall asleep during the session, but a little pre-session awake time can help them sleep more soundly when they arrive.
- Flexible Schedule: Sessions are baby-led, so we’ll take breaks for feedings, cuddles, or soothing as needed.
