There are so many moments in motherhood that quietly slip by while you’re busy living them.
The way your one-year-old rests their head on your shoulder when they’re tired.
The way your four-year-old reaches for your hand without thinking.
The dancing in the kitchen.
The “nosies” before bedtime.
The giggles that turn into full-body laughter for no real reason at all.
These are the moments that make up your days – the ones that feel ordinary while you’re in them.
And yet, they are the very ones that your children will remember.

Why Being In The Frame Matters
As mothers, we are often the ones behind the camera.
We capture first steps, birthday candles, messy faces, and sleepy snuggles – all while rarely stepping into the frame ourselves. One day, when your children look back at these photographs, they’ll see so much of their childhood…
…but will they see you in it?
Photographs are one of the few ways your children will be able to revisit what it felt like to be small in your arms – to see the way you looked at them, the way you held them, the way you were with them.

Recreating The Moments That Already Matter
During motherhood sessions here in the studio at Jennifer Mae Photography in Centerville, I’m not looking for perfection.
I’m looking for:
- The way you sway when you hold them
- The way they tuck into your neck
- The way you dance together
- The “nosies” you do before nap time
- The little bits of chaos that feel like real life
Sometimes that means we spin in circles.
Sometimes we play peek-a-boo.
Sometimes we simply sit together on the floor while your little one climbs into your lap again and again.
I often guide you into moments I know you’re already experiencing at home – because years from now, it won’t be the perfectly posed photo that brings you back.
It will be the one that feels familiar.
For families nearby, these sessions are a beautiful way of celebrating motherhood, documenting the connection that already exists between you and your children.

One Year Becomes Four Before You Know It
One of my favorite things about photographing motherhood over time is watching how quickly it changes.
The baby you once rocked becomes the toddler who runs toward you.
The toddler becomes the child who wraps their arms around your waist.
And the way they fit in your arms today will not be the way they fit in your arms next year.
That’s why so many families choose to continue documenting milestones beyond the newborn stage – including sessions like marking one year of motherhood: the beauty of a Mommy-and-Me session, which celebrate both growth and connection.
Documenting motherhood isn’t about creating something new –
It’s about preserving what’s already here.

Motherhood Sessions at Jennifer Mae Photography
Motherhood sessions are something I offer year-round as a Simplicity Milestone Session – designed to gently document your connection with your little ones in a way that’s beautiful but feels natural.
In addition, I host a Mommy & Me motherhood event once each year in the studio.
If stepping into the frame with your little ones is something you’ve been meaning to do, join the notification list so you’ll know when the next Mommy & Me event is announced.
