There’s something extra magical about welcoming twins into the world. Twice the snuggles, twice the tiny toes… and sometimes, twice the chaos! I had the joy of photographing a twin newborn session that was made even more special by the presence of two very sweet family dogs. It was the perfect mix of heartwarming moments and real-life joy and it’s the kind of session that reminds me why I love what I do.
If you’re a parent expecting twins (or planning to include your pups in the newborn portraits), here’s what you can expect – and how we’ll make it all feel beautifully effortless.

1. Yes, We Can Include Both Babies and Pets
Your newborn session should reflect your real life — and for many families, that includes furry family members. Dogs are absolutely welcome to be part of your session and often add a beautiful layer of connection, protectiveness, and personality to your images.
We take a slow, gentle approach when including pets, making sure they’re comfortable and never forced into any setup that feels stressful. Everything we do is rooted in a safety-first approach, ensuring both babies and pets are supported and at ease throughout the session.
2. What Makes Twin Sessions Unique
Photographing twins requires a slightly different rhythm. Rather than rushing through a checklist, we move at the babies’ pace – rotating between the two, allowing for breaks, feedings, or snuggles as needed. Sometimes one baby is sleepy while the other is wide-eyed, and that’s perfectly okay.

During your session, we’ll capture:
- Individual portraits of each baby
- Classic twin poses together
- Family portraits with both babies (and yes, pets if desired!)
Parents often wonder how much time to plan for a twin session. The pace is unhurried and flexible, and I walk through exactly what that looks like in how long newborn sessions take, so you can arrive feeling confident and prepared.
And just so you know – I never charge extra for photographing twins. From double strollers to double swaddles, I understand the added investment that comes with multiples. No added fees – just meaningful memories of your little duo.

3. How to Prepare for a Twin (and Dog-Friendly) Session
Here are a few tips to help your session go smoothly:
- Feed the babies before arrival so they’re comfortable and relaxed.
- Bring a pacifier for each baby, even if they don’t usually use one- it can help soothe them during transitions.
- If dogs are joining, bring a leash, some treats, and a favorite toy. A quick walk before the session helps them release energy and settle in.
- Let go of perfection. Twin sessions are beautifully unpredictable, and that’s part of what makes them so special.
If you’re also navigating sessions with older siblings at home, you may find preparing for newborn sessions with siblings helpful – many of the same principles apply: flexibility, patience, and letting the session unfold naturally.

4. Why These Moments Matter
In the whirlwind of adjusting to life with twins (and managing your four-legged crew), it’s easy to forget how tiny and new everything feels right now. A newborn session gives you the gift of freezing these early days- to remember not just what your babies looked like, but the love that surrounded them.
Whether it’s your baby’s hand wrapped around your finger or your dog gently resting near by, these are the stories your photos will tell.
